<br />
I love fall. It is probably my favorite season. The leaves changing color and crunching under my feet while I walk the dogs just makes me smile. I also LOVE cutesy owls. I saw this quilt all done up in a local quilt shop and it made me smile, so I bought the kit. It only took about a week of after school sewing from start to finish to complete the top. I would have had it done sooner, but I ran out of thread while quilting it so I had to wait until I could get more matching thread to finish. I quilted it on my home machine using a meander. I am very happy with how the quilting turned out. This is the largest quilt I have attempted to quilt on my own using my free motion foot. I have quilted on other quilt this size but I used a zig-zag stitch and my walking foot and just did lines across the quilt. The only tweak I made was not putting the leaves on the pumpkins. I just didn't like the way they looked so I skipped them. Now that I have finished this one I am looking forward to doing some Christmas/Winter sewing. I have the stuff for a really fun festive apron and a quilt. I can't wait to share!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01893282010443943278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063189565374426481.post-31286221729955782102016-10-12T19:17:00.000-05:002016-10-12T19:17:01.028-05:00Farm Girl Vintage Runner<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I created this fun and colorful runner using three 12" blocks from the book Farm Girl Vintage. It has actually been sitting on my shelf unfinished since last May. I had it all sewn and quilted...it just needed binding...then I realized I had no idea where I was going to use it. The colors were too bright for most of the rooms in my house and definitely didn't work in my kitchen. I lost all motivation to finish it. I cringed every time I saw it sitting unfinished on my shelf. I don't like to leave things unfinished but I refuse to let sewing feel like a chore. I don't want it to be something I have to do. Sewing is something I WANT to do. Last night I had a lightning bolt moment and a surge of motivation. I realized that I could hang it in my sewing room and it would actually work perfectly! I don't know how I hadn't noticed before. I found the coolest way to hang mini quilts using safety pins and command hooks. Check it out <a href="http://www.patchworkposse.com/how-to-hang-a-quilt/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
If you have any other really cool ways to hang mini quilts leave it in the comments below. Also feel free to link any posts about mini quilts or runners in the comments. I hit gold in an old shed.... although at the time it looked more like a ship wreck.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgytGEOCWbD_ev-Wzn1R3v78swF6rhL8sLt3oQ77AGKCa1eYwlnmwgN4rxzBzjOP355F5zy5iqCFGHjfMdwiRrtqgb6lAYpfyXFm-K71Qoz5oopDvW-DQUzns6HjGT_4sRMRv4VBXYPLd6s/s1600/IMG_20160604_141410554_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgytGEOCWbD_ev-Wzn1R3v78swF6rhL8sLt3oQ77AGKCa1eYwlnmwgN4rxzBzjOP355F5zy5iqCFGHjfMdwiRrtqgb6lAYpfyXFm-K71Qoz5oopDvW-DQUzns6HjGT_4sRMRv4VBXYPLd6s/s400/IMG_20160604_141410554_HDR.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>

This beautiful dresser was barrier under old tires and the like. It took about 25 minutes of digging until I could get it out. Once I got it out I could see that it had posts on the back for a mirror (which was no where to be found), one leg had some damage and was shorter than the others, rats had at one point made a nest in the drawers, the handles were rusted, the top was cracked... the list of reasons I should put it back and leave it was never ending. There was NO WAY I could tackle this project. What a mess!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYW5OEHs5G8qjranGtahSwl11VRVR4-my7u_5dPBdTGc7ZxjWYm2EKkLijnt7CVFENud-fScZKcqfAC65KSVXC-agbT_9jCHK-mdX90Ph9cxubBFsrjjPUtMC2O3YZXNkGpoVVQzMYF3I3/s1600/IMG_20160604_144642497_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYW5OEHs5G8qjranGtahSwl11VRVR4-my7u_5dPBdTGc7ZxjWYm2EKkLijnt7CVFENud-fScZKcqfAC65KSVXC-agbT_9jCHK-mdX90Ph9cxubBFsrjjPUtMC2O3YZXNkGpoVVQzMYF3I3/s400/IMG_20160604_144642497_HDR.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But it is summer break and I wanted something to work on and I have been looking for a dresser to use as a TV console for two years. If this didn't work I wasn't out anything. Here's the catch, I had planned on finding something to paint, but this is OLD and it was my grandparents. So, instead of making it more modern I decided to go the restorative approach. My goal was to restore this dresser to it's previous beauty. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First I brought it home and cleaned out all the yuck. Then I sanded it down. I loved the look as I was sanding it down. It made me seriously second guess my stain choice. I thought about leaving the sanded finish and just stain it. The variation was pretty. Then I thought maybe a lighter stain... but I stuck with what I already had. The stain I used was Dark Walnut.</div>

I also spent a good amount of time scrubbing the hardware. I tried everything and I still am not happy with how it came out, but it is much better.</div>

It looks almost as good as new. But the imperfections are what make this piece special. I am hoping to get better pictures eventually but I was just to excited to get this post up to wait. <br />

Life got busy. You'll have to excuse the lack of progress pictures in my next few posts because I shattered my iPhone screen and started using a different phone... the pictures are really no good on my new phone. Eventually I may buy an actual camera, but for now the pictures are what they are. <br />
<br />
This winter I made the Urban Tote an Amy Barikman Design. The pattern is from Indygo Junction. I was easily able to make this bag in an afternoon. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTOIlAfZmFN43iadVLJVI3bS9TXVRZThq8Udqr2fnwyFko61n5mMtse2XQtuHXkMxsb5n_CavaRsv40ahbZrWW65BfFDghcqoSGlXpIJqi8l9ZJyOwPvdGjP1ghGveEi9fPsN1ZbjXiETu/s1600/12718121_1145349295505164_4062175206833218242_n+%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTOIlAfZmFN43iadVLJVI3bS9TXVRZThq8Udqr2fnwyFko61n5mMtse2XQtuHXkMxsb5n_CavaRsv40ahbZrWW65BfFDghcqoSGlXpIJqi8l9ZJyOwPvdGjP1ghGveEi9fPsN1ZbjXiETu/s320/12718121_1145349295505164_4062175206833218242_n+%25282%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There are two pockets on the outside and two pockets on the inside. The outside pockets are not very user friendly but add a little flair to the bag. The pattern also has an option to make a wonky log cabin center panel for the bag. It would be a great way to use up scraps from a favorite project!<br />
<br />
I plan on posting more often... at least for the summer. I hope you all have a fantastic rest of the week!<br />

I now have 4 of them. One for spring, fall, Christmas, and now Valentine's day. I just love making these!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Here is a close up so you can see the fabric I used a little better. I got the fabric at Hobby Lobby. I searched for close to a month for some cute heart fabric and just came across this today. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also sewed this block. It is the Winter Star Block from the book Farm Girl Vintage. I have two other blocks using similar colors already cut out ready to sew. I think I am going to sew the three blocks together to make a table runner, but if I really love them I may just go out and buy some more fabric in similar colors and make a throw.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I am a bit of a napper. When I watch TV I am pretty destined to fall asleep for at least part of whatever I am watching. The other night I fell asleep at 6:30 and my dear husband just left me sleeping... so I woke up at 2:30 AM. I had gotten my 8 hours and there was no going back to bed. You may be wondering, what do you do at that time of night?! I don't know about you, but I made pie. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I splurged and bought a food processor last weekend and have been using it for everything. I made biscuits first. They turned out so much better than when I have tried making them before. The food processor cuts in the butter perfectly!!! So, of course I had to try making a pie crust! I used <a href="http://allrecipes.com/recipe/12360/flaky-food-processor-pie-crust/" target="_blank">this</a> recipe. It calls for shortening, but I just used butter. It turned out great. I also tend to over mix my crumb topping, so I thought I should probably just make that in the food processor, too! My husband thinks I am crazy to be this excited about a kitchen appliance... but it really is so handy!<br />
<br />
I hope to do some more crafting/baking this week so stay tuned to see what I share next. <br />

I have just been lacking inspiration for a while. Today school was cancelled due to very cold (-25/30 degree wind-chills) weather. Yesterday was even colder. Needless to say I didn't exactly get outside much. <br />
<br />
Yesterday I spent the day cooking. I made this excellent <a href="http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/chicken-alfredo-baked-ziti-recipe/" target="_blank">Baked Chicken Alfredo</a>. I found the recipe on Gimme Some Oven. I used a canned sauce because I have never cooked with Alfredo before...I am kind of ashamed to type that! I also doubled the cheese in the recipe, because who doesn't LOVE cheese?! I look forward to trying a homemade Alfredo sauce sometime. I also turned on the broiler to brown the cheese. It tastes as good as it looks! I promise!<br />

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also took advantage of this extra time and spent a couple of hours in my sewing room. I had "NOTHING to work on" or at least that's what I have been telling my husband since Christmas. Truth is I had bought the stuff to make a fun wintery table runner and it was just sitting there because it was not what I wanted to work on. I also have a partially finished quilt with solids that I am just not loving but should finish up. The last project I have going is a queen size sampler quilt I finished in May, but haven't quilted or taken to be quilted. So, I have decided I will finish these things before I do anything else. Today I tackled the winter table runner and even though it wasn't what I thought I wanted to do I had a lot of fun and it felt good to be back in my sewing room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc30cHbJDPybOQf_Waq4GjZOtewF6qZ1_NtAnjtlWpfiEffq7_1-i9Q8tjm5fkWgUqRXjshhmHLs_7YMvK3cDGMpiMuq9kzuntvQFkTzldnXX625x2ojTFCvARs1O7QihYU8vWL_Zvpqnc/s1600/IMG_4189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc30cHbJDPybOQf_Waq4GjZOtewF6qZ1_NtAnjtlWpfiEffq7_1-i9Q8tjm5fkWgUqRXjshhmHLs_7YMvK3cDGMpiMuq9kzuntvQFkTzldnXX625x2ojTFCvARs1O7QihYU8vWL_Zvpqnc/s400/IMG_4189.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a 1/4 yd of the snowmen print and an 1/8 yd each of the green, red, and white. I cut (7) 4 1/2 in squares of the snowmen. Then I made (8) pinwheel blocks. I started with 2 7/8 inch squares cut diagonally for the half square triangles to make my pinwheels. I quilted it using large circles. I thought it would be cute if they looked like snowballs. This is really a little short to use as a table runner, I will put it on one of our many side tables. If you want to use it for a table runner I would suggest using 10 snowmen blocks and 11 pinwheel blocks. You should not need to buy extra fabric I had enough left over I could have made it longer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great week and hopefully you'll hear from me soon!</div>

I always lose track of time over breaks. Today I had some errands to run and decided to stop into the local thrift store. Lately I haven't had much luck finding any fun projects, but today I found a few frames I really liked. <br />
<br />
Here are the before pictures...<br />
<br />
The oval pictures aren't so bad, they just aren't my style and wouldn't have had a place in my home. These were 25 cents. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvifIv74ezyOE8VYU3llsuT3_U7BYCB0o9LRMWuN1O2sK2zXKJx9MQhoUBzPUJ_-eQrqCAGKXl-sm_QluCVTWylw0HMGTfrEkG2DGRSPwvKK40oY7Jxpg_rFgiKv5cvxUojPduP0HDPaHJ/s1600/IMG_4113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvifIv74ezyOE8VYU3llsuT3_U7BYCB0o9LRMWuN1O2sK2zXKJx9MQhoUBzPUJ_-eQrqCAGKXl-sm_QluCVTWylw0HMGTfrEkG2DGRSPwvKK40oY7Jxpg_rFgiKv5cvxUojPduP0HDPaHJ/s320/IMG_4113.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This rectangle frame took me a minute to see the potential. Again, nothing wrong with cross stitch, but it is not my style. Then I realized that it was just in there like a picture and could easily be removed. It got even better when I realized the mirror could also be removed. It made from some easy painting. This frame was $1.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhydel27BkOZeaOAdnGgY7Da2kdq3ZOYaOubU25ZUwMbcpzoJ4UfIHH_B7Wlr2uH_lPoh3Yw0ezM0PylDSTQ95JpiYpib02Vnr7VItRRreIsuP9x-M8SAXAqR1vIr5u34WusaFBg_3bbK9x/s1600/IMG_4117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhydel27BkOZeaOAdnGgY7Da2kdq3ZOYaOubU25ZUwMbcpzoJ4UfIHH_B7Wlr2uH_lPoh3Yw0ezM0PylDSTQ95JpiYpib02Vnr7VItRRreIsuP9x-M8SAXAqR1vIr5u34WusaFBg_3bbK9x/s320/IMG_4117.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Now for the after pictures...<br />
<br />
For the oval frames I just replaced the pictures with some fun scrap paper that matches my sewing room décor. So easy, but oh so cute!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo1lOGvTXrNobSgqtj6vVajgx7kvhjH2yNFLUKZXJR-tPvSwKfFP8wu3-pFZxtf7x5ygoPyO4MNPs2aAVl3oEt96SOG7oMrsyIw2u-g5XrGMLNH7oLfUDYCIW2eVK0eiiyqIQMV7pgOTY/s1600/IMG_4120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo1lOGvTXrNobSgqtj6vVajgx7kvhjH2yNFLUKZXJR-tPvSwKfFP8wu3-pFZxtf7x5ygoPyO4MNPs2aAVl3oEt96SOG7oMrsyIw2u-g5XrGMLNH7oLfUDYCIW2eVK0eiiyqIQMV7pgOTY/s320/IMG_4120.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The rectangle frame took a little more TLC. I first removed the mirror and cross stitch and painted on three coats of acrylic paint. I just used a paint brush. I started with foam brush but with the details a paint brush was much easier.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPc_0AR-jX_OeC4YXmB6jqypU0c2IBHganwLb2IzwHbQcZDtp14P-PX9CAL68kMsJc63paDeyfk6qwFwKQAscKzAPAKXt1hAhEQtC8isizSbKHiEWzygaRwHO5IO5M_fRhakiysDNpoEgE/s1600/IMG_4118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPc_0AR-jX_OeC4YXmB6jqypU0c2IBHganwLb2IzwHbQcZDtp14P-PX9CAL68kMsJc63paDeyfk6qwFwKQAscKzAPAKXt1hAhEQtC8isizSbKHiEWzygaRwHO5IO5M_fRhakiysDNpoEgE/s320/IMG_4118.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the paint dried (I am impatient so I helped the drying process along with my blow dryer) I started playing around with fabric I could use for the top. The first one was a great neutral but I decided I wanted something that would pop a little more. This frame has to wait for Christmas decorations to come down before I hang it, but then I have the perfect spot for it!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgveCGUWBh7937Fi8A9R4QohMRp-iLLM5unQFdLpHQZW0OkTGVknxO6f27UuDnYabL8HLovitlUeaJAG2adnb7Id2Xa1zfjrwHwspaR64XLeGAehNJfY3b12742opiKgHrgA3qQ9z0hGXUO/s1600/IMG_4122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgveCGUWBh7937Fi8A9R4QohMRp-iLLM5unQFdLpHQZW0OkTGVknxO6f27UuDnYabL8HLovitlUeaJAG2adnb7Id2Xa1zfjrwHwspaR64XLeGAehNJfY3b12742opiKgHrgA3qQ9z0hGXUO/s320/IMG_4122.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of Christmas, we have one celebration left. Which gave me the perfect excuse to make one more batch of sugar cookies. I think they turned out pretty. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMzAihX4fZx63E5c8zLDnVOAo_i0N5OPPmnzgsIv9zfv5-2Kfs19gfIRbrxH23TWCrs7N4NMKgglGB4-UAKUpKXWR0Xm8XleYXpuNXO0zqCgALxeIKi8r-x0rd39jUYbe94pFNq3yFxd-/s1600/IMG_4100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMzAihX4fZx63E5c8zLDnVOAo_i0N5OPPmnzgsIv9zfv5-2Kfs19gfIRbrxH23TWCrs7N4NMKgglGB4-UAKUpKXWR0Xm8XleYXpuNXO0zqCgALxeIKi8r-x0rd39jUYbe94pFNq3yFxd-/s320/IMG_4100.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Wishing everyone a safe and happy New Year!<br />

I haven't posted since Thanksgiving, but you know how it is with secret projects and this time of year is just BUSY! Today I have lots to share though! <br />
<br />
First I tried my hand at some painting... I was very bored with no other projects to work on. It was a fun diversion, but I will stick to sewing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUieeJKLADHjiSxC-XGWk4EY_OFeKpsMeRIePnB7uX1KAbeZ3uWuqMWpC9QFylyWrE7PLs5VrLHZT5NeYAbtaGOrgPHADhD09WyDfa9iCHQloxLy48aDryMXf0ijN1bvOSEVXY48ehDM6y/s1600/IMG_3940.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUieeJKLADHjiSxC-XGWk4EY_OFeKpsMeRIePnB7uX1KAbeZ3uWuqMWpC9QFylyWrE7PLs5VrLHZT5NeYAbtaGOrgPHADhD09WyDfa9iCHQloxLy48aDryMXf0ijN1bvOSEVXY48ehDM6y/s400/IMG_3940.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>

<br />
My mom and I worked on some secret sewing for my little sister...<br />
I have been dying to share this! We gave it to her at Christmas yesterday so now you can all see it too! It is tied, not quilted and had been folded up for a couple of weeks... so you'll have to forgive the wrinkles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKwgXelasZCwvpD3_EGr9LGj9tVzMnJpSmy98Ff5JqE8tmJ0tckxBa4MQ7fpOWOx35s4BEDu1pXnc8Hg_9iMQ_KLHdW7D8mRbDDmzBmfyDdtm-YJRUBU6uDwrf8EFw7smS2hIbBmAHqL1i/s1600/IMG_4047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKwgXelasZCwvpD3_EGr9LGj9tVzMnJpSmy98Ff5JqE8tmJ0tckxBa4MQ7fpOWOx35s4BEDu1pXnc8Hg_9iMQ_KLHdW7D8mRbDDmzBmfyDdtm-YJRUBU6uDwrf8EFw7smS2hIbBmAHqL1i/s400/IMG_4047.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made these little sock guys for my students. They took about 4 hours to make 16 and a pound of rice each. There are tutorials all over pinterest! They turn out so cute.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also made a couple of pot holders! So fun and only took around 1 1/2 hours!</div>

I made this cute stocking garland. As promised.... here is the finished product! I have to admit that this is not the way I originally planned it to turn out. I was going to make a table runner like the previous one (with the snowmen and bears), but after finishing that one I felt that I wanted to branch out and test some limits. I have never been much of a crafter, but thanks to the help and patience, lots and lots of patience, of my awesome friend, I was able to make this table runner today! I think that this pattern captured the essence of snow flakes which will be perfect to leave out all winter season! I have sewn before but this was my first time actually quilting something! It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be and even though I got frustrated here and there, I think that this project was definitely worth it and was a fun way to have a great weekend with a great friend!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01893282010443943278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063189565374426481.post-38984053110463665702015-11-14T20:01:00.000-06:002015-11-14T20:05:02.899-06:00Tis the Holiday Season....ALMOST!This year I am breaking all my rules and embracing the Christmas season a little early. I have always been a huge fan of decorating the day after Thanksgiving. I had a friend down this weekend and we decided to celebrate Christmas a little early since we won't be able to get together for a couple of months. We watched a Christmas movie, put up our artificial Christmas tree (we are going to get a real one a little closer to Christmas), made Eggless Sugar Cookies, and did a lot of Christmas sewing.<br />
<br />
We started with a couple of <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/vegan-sugar-cookies/45ab6889-511a-4345-9391-9ea5c00c8d4a" target="_blank">10 Minute Table Runners</a>. Mine is the snow flake one with the sparkly ruffle. My friends is the awesome snowmen.<br />

<br />
While working on our table runners we got a surprise visit from a couple of my crafty sister-in-laws and spent a little time talking with them.<br />
<br />
Then I made pillow covers for all of the pillows on our sofa. I went very simple with envelope style backs. The red has gold and white snow flakes and the black have jumping reindeer on them with gold swirls.<br />

Once I finished all my sewing I started rolling out <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/vegan-sugar-cookies/45ab6889-511a-4345-9391-9ea5c00c8d4a" target="_blank">sugar cookies</a>. YUM! My friend and I were joking about how I am pretty committed to my current cookie recipes with the exception of cutout cookies...I haven't found a recipe I was ready to "marry". Trying a new cooking recipe is not something I do often. We were trying an <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/vegan-sugar-cookies/45ab6889-511a-4345-9391-9ea5c00c8d4a" target="_blank">eggless recipe</a> since she is allergic. I have to say this sugar cookie recipe may have me running to the alter if our next date goes well! It is vegan recipe, but I used regular milk, left out the almond extract, and used normal butter. <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/vegan-sugar-cookies/45ab6889-511a-4345-9391-9ea5c00c8d4a" target="_blank">These</a> cookies were light and fluffy and retained their shape! Happy Sunday! I had a great weekend spending time with my mister. He helped me pick out some Christmas decorations and some fabric for new curtains. He is actually really good at that stuff and I like having his opinion. After getting home last night I sewed the curtains and he promised to hang them today. <br />

The next 7 days are going to be busy. I have parent teacher conferences and a friend coming this weekend. I am really looking forward to this weekend. We are going to do some baking and some crafting so I may have pictures to post Sunday night. Then again I also have all these leaves to finish cleaning up... plus the leaves I haven't even started on in my front yard. Fall and I have a love/hate relationship.</div>

Who can finish the saying: A Bobbin A Day...? I would love to hear how you would finish it! I ll tell you mine in my next post. Tonight I was focused on doing some things that I enjoy. <br />
<br />
My dogs and I had to go for our first night walk tonight! It is the first time I have walked both dogs in the dark. It went better than expected. I am still a little nervous about walking them in the snow, but they cry when I walk them separately. My doggy mom guilt kicks in big time when I hear them cry.<br />

You know the bag I said I was making back in <a href="http://myuglyducklingprojects.blogspot.com/2015/10/i-fell-off-crafting-wagon.html" target="_blank">this</a> post... well I finished it tonight. It turned out better than I expected. The bag itself is very padded. Turns out it is meant to be a case, but I really like the structure of it. If you waned something less padded and protected you could use the same pattern with a different type of interfacing. The only other modifications I made were leaving off the zipper pulls and not making the strap adjustable. Let's be realistic. I NEVER adjust the straps on my bags anyway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJePraLDzv-MeVYNb9vopEhmHB1jkHfRY4bwQ-l92rLlbarm97Zme1KYwzdosmWXRDjsHQkzswBv5hCA5e4JZJfvF_PO4buiRHsbR74OnhwK6DIKmwHxU5Zq7CVGNfzOKyhxHAK55kctHH/s1600/IMG_3600.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJePraLDzv-MeVYNb9vopEhmHB1jkHfRY4bwQ-l92rLlbarm97Zme1KYwzdosmWXRDjsHQkzswBv5hCA5e4JZJfvF_PO4buiRHsbR74OnhwK6DIKmwHxU5Zq7CVGNfzOKyhxHAK55kctHH/s320/IMG_3600.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And check out this fancy zipper!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This whole project took me less than five hours start to finish. I highly recommend this bag. It has a very similar appearance to a thirty one bag. I have already come up with all the minor modifications I would need to make in order for it to be nearly the same bag! <a href="https://www.byannie.com/shop/product/daytripper-2-crossbody-case/" target="_blank">Here</a> is a link to where you can get the pattern. <a href="https://www.byannie.com/shop/product/daytripper-2-crossbody-case/">https://www.byannie.com/shop/product/daytripper-2-crossbody-case/</a>. If you happen to be from Southwest Wisconsin you can also pick the pattern up at <a href="http://www.quiltpeddlerllc.com/contact/" target="_blank">The Quilt Peddler</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I would love to see pictures if you decide to make one! Stay tuned to see what I will be making next!</div>

I temporarily fell off the crafting wagon. I haven't even been on pinterest...and this week I resorted to frozen dinners. I have had a cold for the last week or so. I have also had plans every weekend in October, which means lots of fun... but not very much time to get things done. Honestly, I have just been in a bit of a funk. Tonight I opened the door to my sewing room for the first time in nearly two weeks. I finished recovering some cushions for a nursery chair for one of the teachers. I just hope the person that they are for is happy with them. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghs2vSnITCqqbYI3t-3VfKbJTtdycHCn1zyPG500HRKX3jK-rWWq2djq4Fr8bI0Rc5QivmZ8hVcdudPwQyCmiMe9RVvYfRZoQOsytATfE8JMK5s2nAQxoqnAsprP0eSVgt8lW975Lntv7f/s1600/IMG_3579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghs2vSnITCqqbYI3t-3VfKbJTtdycHCn1zyPG500HRKX3jK-rWWq2djq4Fr8bI0Rc5QivmZ8hVcdudPwQyCmiMe9RVvYfRZoQOsytATfE8JMK5s2nAQxoqnAsprP0eSVgt8lW975Lntv7f/s320/IMG_3579.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With the cushions all packed up in my car I finally got around to cleaning my sewing room and getting ready for my next project. I am going to be making a Day Tripper bag! The pattern reminds me a lot of the thirty one cross body bags.... the great thing is that I can choose my own fabric. Here is what I have picked out for the bag. Stay tuned for the finished product!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtF33CqM1jdrAEivAg5EezolRI_82pPW6VsFtE7xFf66cMDC9ZjFzLMBS8lIwnrhWagzT-k_x8ldhVyYzlby6yItkRYHRSkKtOgu16WmUIeZAXZfrSpNkumxX8kMSVWCfSDVXeiMbRIwvG/s1600/IMG_3581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtF33CqM1jdrAEivAg5EezolRI_82pPW6VsFtE7xFf66cMDC9ZjFzLMBS8lIwnrhWagzT-k_x8ldhVyYzlby6yItkRYHRSkKtOgu16WmUIeZAXZfrSpNkumxX8kMSVWCfSDVXeiMbRIwvG/s320/IMG_3581.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having a new project all set out ready to work on is just the motivation I need to survive the rest of the week... and knowing that I have no plans and plenty of time to chill out this weekend!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I had a great weekend with a friend and we even did a little sewing! We decided that we were each going to make a fall 10 minute table runner. If you google these you will find them everywhere! Here is a link <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfg8BMUakOc">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfg8BMUakOc</a>. You will be shocked to find that picking out the fabric really does take longer than sewing the actual table runner! These also make great gifts! Here is mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM7UAFijBKN-Ko-xubN7KxEAgfKDsuGqk7Fe1oPF0i-xQDVkLa44nl73Z9hXDbNFSlA8UoUkKt9G6rkboL8XP0tUEcw7BYeDH9lQpvpatjMPDnNrfLzT3oiVZoWsp2XYAyXP9msWPzSYN5/s1600/IMG_3238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM7UAFijBKN-Ko-xubN7KxEAgfKDsuGqk7Fe1oPF0i-xQDVkLa44nl73Z9hXDbNFSlA8UoUkKt9G6rkboL8XP0tUEcw7BYeDH9lQpvpatjMPDnNrfLzT3oiVZoWsp2XYAyXP9msWPzSYN5/s400/IMG_3238.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After making this fun table runner I was in the mood for fall. So, I also whipped up this wall hanging using the Classic Tea Leaf Block in the book Vintage Quilt Revival. I still need to quilt and bind it but I am looking forward to finishing it up this weekend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I had a less than perfect day today and was just feeling a little down and frustrated... that means I needed some therapy... sewing therapy. I recently received some exciting news from my younger sister and have been looking forward to sewing some things for her and my future niece or nephew. My sister-in-law had made many of these when she was pregnant and I really liked them so I thought I would whip some up for her. The fronts are flannel and the backs are towels that I bought and cut up.</div>

Don't pay too much attention to the last picture. It's awful. I just wanted to show you the size it would be when using it. If it were me I would use it towel side up but this made for a prettier picture. Lol. The towel absorbs moisture really well and the flannel helps it stay on your shoulder. Cutting it with curves at the shoulder helps to avoid the bulk of using a normal towel. I am making 8 of these... all are cut but I will be finishing sewing them later this week.<br />
<br />
After spending some time in my sewing room I think I am ready to face another day tomorrow. Off to curl up in bed and watch a movie... for about 15 minutes before I fall asleep :). I hope you all have a fantastic week!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01893282010443943278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4063189565374426481.post-15046471138600485842015-09-14T20:22:00.002-05:002015-09-14T20:22:16.939-05:00Quilted Summer Day and Night QAL<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Can I just say I loved quilting this quilt?! I can not believe how easy the three stitch zig-sag made quilting this. My husband prefers a loftier quilt...he would prefer I just tie all my quilts... he loves that fluffy cozy feeling. I on the other hand like a finished look to my quilt and I know that quilted quilts tend to hold up a little better and in my opinion just look nicer. This was the perfect compromise. It is a loose quilting pattern and still has a clean finished look to it. I recommend this to anyone who is quilting a quilt on their home machine! Now I just have to bind it and I can cross it off my list of works in progress!<br />

I know I did! I did some garage saling yesterday and had lunch with my parents. Then today my husband and I went to the apple orchards. We were back by noon and he had to get some sleep and I spent the remainder of my day sewing and listening to an audio book. A while back I had been posting about <a href="http://sandraclemons.blogspot.com/2015/08/summer-sampler-quilt-along-quilt-layout.html?spref=fb" target="_blank">this</a> quilt along. I wasn't very excited about block nine... and I put it off forever... until yesterday when I decided that I was just going to make a 16 inch scrappy block instead of the block they provided. Now I am on a mission to finish this quilt! I promise better pics then!<br />

Today I have lots to say. School has officially started. I survived the first week of school with 90 degree days with sixteen five and six year olds. That alone requires celebration! I am looking forward to a much cooler week. Even though I have not posted I have still been having some fun. I was trying to make the most of what is left of summer, so I took my dog and my wonderfully girly tackle box and went fishing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbIZmxBz4Ddf6PRBoZudkPX_WbHA8vZXTWSIzIyevy78005Xsza55gd6htfSBGtDWGdguZRnPpUPWKVvWx3JfqLcUCZDFR0dYNFQ4JF8Rxr4-Iw_W63hf3NQUdkUQup1Coh-UDpglkQ4Ya/s1600/IMG_3046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbIZmxBz4Ddf6PRBoZudkPX_WbHA8vZXTWSIzIyevy78005Xsza55gd6htfSBGtDWGdguZRnPpUPWKVvWx3JfqLcUCZDFR0dYNFQ4JF8Rxr4-Iw_W63hf3NQUdkUQup1Coh-UDpglkQ4Ya/s320/IMG_3046.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I have also been able to try two new recipes this weekend. The first is a pasta casserole. I have tried recipes similar to this and found them to be too creamy, but I really enjoyed this one. My husband hasn't tried it yet so I can only share my opinion. I think it would make the perfect comfort food. Here is the link to the recipe: <a href="http://www.bestestrecipes.com/2014/07/cheesy-bacon-chicken-casserole.html?spref=pi" target="_blank">http://www.bestestrecipes.com/2014/07/cheesy-bacon-chicken-casserole.html?spref=pi</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyF8EHGW-xJT5SAVFLEYJsFeogmU5xU5FNok823Xi_-THHlP6l5Gj7wdeGQEsi8SqmhjwG6YmETIhXea2CseUaTQvLpgtT5Wz08DnKzP8eMzBILqowe8aAD0Ua6Q71r9abjYz3CFkjFzDj/s1600/IMG_3175.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyF8EHGW-xJT5SAVFLEYJsFeogmU5xU5FNok823Xi_-THHlP6l5Gj7wdeGQEsi8SqmhjwG6YmETIhXea2CseUaTQvLpgtT5Wz08DnKzP8eMzBILqowe8aAD0Ua6Q71r9abjYz3CFkjFzDj/s320/IMG_3175.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also tried this dessert recipe. I must warn you that while this dessert is delicious it is very sweet it doesn't take much to satisfy a sweet tooth. It makes a full 9x13 pan which is going to be too much for my husband and I. I recommend this for potlucks or on dessert trays during the holidays... or cut the batch.There is no egg, so the recipe would be easy enough to down size. The link to this recipe is here:<a href="http://cookiesandcups.com/dont-hate-me-because-im-butter-ful/" target="_blank">http://cookiesandcups.com/dont-hate-me-because-im-butter-ful/.</a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I have received two different bundles of solids from two different bloggers this summer and I knew I wanted to use them together. I started by cutting them into 2 1/1 inch strips and just started sewing them together into sets of 5, I wasn't for sure what I wanted to do but I had a couple of ideas. Then fate stepped in today and I came across this video <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Ixvjje310&cuid=e9980c92401234798c3d85b86d6c399f" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Ixvjje310&cuid=e9980c92401234798c3d85b86d6c399f</a>. I hadn't even been searching for anything sewing related. It just came up as a suggested video and it was perfect! Here is the first block! Isn't it gorgeous. I think the solids are going to be perfect. It is also a great mindless sewing project. I need something I can work on after school for 30 minutes to an hour at a time. Something that I can just leave out and sew when I have time. This is going to be great for the beginning of the year!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those of you who were following along with the Summer Day and Night Quilt Along I have still not sewn block 9...I really need to finish that block and finish off the top... but I got a little burnt out. Hopefully I can get that top finished off soon. I am usually so good about not starting something new until I have finished my other projects... oh well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you have all found some time for fun in the hustle and bustle of life. I am sitting and typing this post with my two dogs sleeping at my feet and feeling pretty grateful for my life. Sometimes we all let stress get us down, but take some time to do things you enjoy and not feel guilty about it. It's the time we spend with our families and friends and the things that we do just for fun that make life worth living.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a wonderful week!</div>

I have to confess that when my husband and I moved in together shortly before our wedding I did some pretty basic cooking. I have also enjoyed cooking but had stuck to the basics. Meaning we had spaghetti, hamburgers, tacos, chicken nuggets, etc. Nothing new and pretty boring. I would repeat those meals many times each month and it got OLD very fast. A couple years ago I began branching out and started trying some new things. At first my husband was a little resistant and I was the only one eating most of what I made but eventually he started to try the foods I made... with one rule...I don't tell him what's really in it. If you asked him he would tell you that he wouldn't eat onion, sour cream, cream cheese, ranch, and the list goes on and on. Now, he willingly eats all of those foods in recipes. He tries at least one bite of everything I make. Not all the recipes I find are winners but this one sure was! I haven't tried a new recipe that went over this well in a while. Here is the link <a href="http://www.kevinandamanda.com/recipes/dinner/ham-cheese-tortellini.html">http://www.kevinandamanda.com/recipes/dinner/ham-cheese-tortellini.html</a>. <br />
<br />
Changes I made: I used shredded Colby Jack cheese instead of the kinds she had listed, I also don't have an oven save frying pan, so I made it on the stove then poured it in a casserole pan before adding the top layer of cheese and broiling it to a golden crispy perfection!<br />
<br />
In my opinion this is ALMOST the perfect comfort food. The only thing that COULD make it better would be some crunchy ritz crackers on top! Can you say, "yum!"<br />
<br />
On that note I am looking for some new recipes this one is going to be added to my collection but I am open to your favorites as well. Post a link or a recipe in the comments if you have a good one or you can email me at <a href="mailto:kategoss91@gmail.com">kategoss91@gmail.com</a>!<br />

I haven't checked in for a while. I have been teaching summer school for the last three weeks and start in service this week. Needless to say I have been pretty busy. I have done a couple of small sewing projects. I used this tutorial to make a CD holder for my car. <a href="http://pukingpastilles.com/?p=517&cpage=1#comment-8499">http://pukingpastilles.com/?p=517&cpage=1#comment-8499</a><br />
<br />
I also tested a new eggless cookie recipe this weekend while a friend was over. She has an egg allergy so it is always a challenge to find sweet treats that she can indulge in. These turned out PERFECT! They are going to be my go to double chocolate recipe!<br />

This was also the first time I ever sewed an inset (y-seam)! I think not bad for my first one. Great practice block since you only do four inset seams. <br />
<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

I just had the best few days. I went to Door County, WI with a friend, my mom, and my sister. It was a blast. It was a long drive but it was worth it. We went to a drive-in movie, a light house, the beach, and lots of shops. Of course there are things I am forgetting, but it was fun. If you are from Wisconsin you probably already know about Door County if you are not from Door County do a google image search and you will see it is just gorgeous.<br />

<br />
My husband stayed home with the dogs and I ended up leaving a night earlier than planned for the trip. Meaning I hadn't had time to cook anything for my husband to reheat. He pretty much ate out for the last three days. When I asked him what he wanted for supper this morning he told me, "Real food and something green!" I agreed completely. We were camping so we had quite a bit of convenience type foods and not much for vegetables. I was also craving some veggies. I had chicken breasts in the fridge so I decided to use that up. He had asked me to make the crumb chicken I used to make for him when he would come over in high school. I use to make that chicken nearly weekly for my family. It was good....but this is better!<br />

<br />
I based my recipe on this link <a href="http://jamiecooksitup.net/2011/10/crispy-cheddar-chicken/">http://jamiecooksitup.net/2011/10/crispy-cheddar-chicken/</a>. I did use some different spices to give it more flavor. I only made four servings. I dipped the chicken in milk, then in shredded cheese. I only needed a cup of cheese. Then in the cracker crumbs. I only needed half a sleeve of crackers. I seasoned the cracker crumbs with seasoning salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and a dash of chili powder. I didn't measure what I put in, but it was very little chili powder and seasoning salt. More pepper and garlic powder. I was a little skeptical of the cheese, but it turned out great. The chicken stayed very moist and the cheese added a lot of flavor! It was delicious. I highly recommend trying this recipe!<br />
<br />
I also was able to finish my week 7 block for the QAL before leaving on our trip. I am hoping to get week 8 done sometime this weekend. I am also going to make valances for one of the teachers I work with. So, I plan on spending some time in my sewing room.<br />

Summer school starts on Monday! This summer just FLEW by. I am hoping to keep posting on here at least once a week so be sure to stop in often. It may be more recipes than sewing for a while (seeing as how I HAVE to cook). If you enjoy my posts be sure to follow by email!</div>

Literally, if I am home and the dogs have been walked and sometimes even if the dogs haven't been walked I am in my pajamas. I have been this way forever...except when it was swimsuits. I used to LOVE going swimming so much that my parents couldn't get me to take my swimsuits off. Anyway, PAJAMAS are amazing. Up until today my favorite pair were my husbands and I had to roll the waist three times because they were too long and too big. Now I have these cute pj bottoms. Sorry for the bad pic...<br />
<br />
*Funny story: I had to put socks on for these pics because my friend is totally freaked out by feet and I was concerned that maybe some of you hate feet, too. Do any of you hate feet?<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Even better than just the pictures of the wonderfully comfy pants I am going to write down how I made them...all you need is approximately 2 1/2-3 Yards of fabric and a favorite pair of pajama bottoms to use as a pattern. That and some elastic for the waist. If you don't have elastic that's okay. Make a drawstring instead!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First, fold your pants in half with the back showing to make the 2 back pieces of your pants. Lay your pants on the folded fabric and cut AT least 5/8ths from the edge. I cut more like an inch and a half from each edge. Remember you can always take in, but it's harder to make bigger.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRdIrLTMnkVbokWWSkHL7n39iB7nHJwJZ78_vUW8_ofnf_R8JnjQJRbyqZ27CbE1STK0PZCgnWTsUyXr7kN_wnoYItb-AHCOo0_SELqRm6E3TqrwisOUUKD1CT0iv3Wx803wp4N82Szsdq/s1600/IMG_2797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRdIrLTMnkVbokWWSkHL7n39iB7nHJwJZ78_vUW8_ofnf_R8JnjQJRbyqZ27CbE1STK0PZCgnWTsUyXr7kN_wnoYItb-AHCOo0_SELqRm6E3TqrwisOUUKD1CT0iv3Wx803wp4N82Szsdq/s320/IMG_2797.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfjUhnKiak8kEtpE2LEVzES_k89wqRtOFbF8M8mEn9FbXHk2B69PTY75qtkGcGX-foR-gzz053Xhn15-sDMoRkG19Tlrb7gRzlAecaHBGwK6kcRgvc4aLMJq-bW2l5AqS1nblBFBTupdSl/s1600/IMG_2798.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfjUhnKiak8kEtpE2LEVzES_k89wqRtOFbF8M8mEn9FbXHk2B69PTY75qtkGcGX-foR-gzz053Xhn15-sDMoRkG19Tlrb7gRzlAecaHBGwK6kcRgvc4aLMJq-bW2l5AqS1nblBFBTupdSl/s320/IMG_2798.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next you need to fold your pants the other way, with the front side out. Make sure you line up the leg seams. This is what most of the tutorials were missing. They just traced four of the back then the final product turned out supper "poofy" in the front. The back has a bigger crotch seam to account for your butt, the front has a curved crotch seam, but it shouldn't be as drastic. Cut two (just fold your fabric).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you should have two back pieces and two font pieces. You are going to sew front to front and back to back with right sides together. Only sewing the crotch seam. Remember when you are sewing clothing you need to use a wider seam allowance. 5/8 in is most common. Remember ONLY SEW THE CROTCH SEAM. The curved part.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjElXqtx3_S45LmHEEC6tk-2npBxYnYBNBdjZiM0GxsWZC3otieCriiJT1jzm3WdOSrkNJzO-ZgegAm9RGYuIOpHjcAU0uQ2PcOwk1Kn_RgZCSwaO0RinoBthg9V1XvWQrkXYbp-FXTt49t/s1600/IMG_2803.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjElXqtx3_S45LmHEEC6tk-2npBxYnYBNBdjZiM0GxsWZC3otieCriiJT1jzm3WdOSrkNJzO-ZgegAm9RGYuIOpHjcAU0uQ2PcOwk1Kn_RgZCSwaO0RinoBthg9V1XvWQrkXYbp-FXTt49t/s320/IMG_2803.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once you have sewn the crotch seam of both the front pieces and the back pieces you need to open them up and lay them right sides together. You can pin (I don't but I am lazy). I sewed outside seams first. Starting at the waist and sewing down each leg seam. This way any uneven hem is at the bottom and will be trimmed when you hem or add a cuff to your pants. Once you have sewn the outside seams you are going to sew the inside leg seam starting at the bottom of one leg and sewing continuously to the bottom of the other leg.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz4Tk1u6zybHh8YnCGZytotiU7kpr8a98HH9WE3IDXZjb4ytzQE8aeOnG4pKMNN34iIqBajJwMDxKfAjqruqN6c_Yj1tvoW49e4PmnqyT0qjQzAaMJbvEQ0ZEZpw7LGOiMK824tnl3tY6i/s1600/IMG_2804.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz4Tk1u6zybHh8YnCGZytotiU7kpr8a98HH9WE3IDXZjb4ytzQE8aeOnG4pKMNN34iIqBajJwMDxKfAjqruqN6c_Yj1tvoW49e4PmnqyT0qjQzAaMJbvEQ0ZEZpw7LGOiMK824tnl3tY6i/s320/IMG_2804.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point I like to try my pants on. It's just for fun and totally optional. You also have options here. You can just fold down the top of the waist 1/4 and then again 1 inch and sew along leaving a space to enter the elastic. Hem the bottom of each leg and be done...or you can add a fun waist band and cuffs on the leg hems. This is what I did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the elastic waist casing I cut a 3 inch wide strip that would go all the way around the waist of the pants. Sewed the two short ends together and folded in half. Then with right sides and raw edges together pin the waist band to the pants. (I like to match the waist band seam to the seam in the back of the pants.) Sew the waist band on being sure to leave an opening to insert the elastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqmgxgueWSg_aw2SyqWElm2Qlkm66ygYStciwAs4t1gjQONZ601dzFq1tlmJaENMD0ItholHRzycA01PGOYmDoLmY3PnaE-yXUBMWHHVhZjCG_Fj0L9wsSeQzeNLbQcE50mwjeWRuva6aI/s1600/IMG_2808.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqmgxgueWSg_aw2SyqWElm2Qlkm66ygYStciwAs4t1gjQONZ601dzFq1tlmJaENMD0ItholHRzycA01PGOYmDoLmY3PnaE-yXUBMWHHVhZjCG_Fj0L9wsSeQzeNLbQcE50mwjeWRuva6aI/s320/IMG_2808.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
Cut a piece of elastic that feels comfortable but snug on your waist. *TIP* I safety pin one end of the elastic to my fabric so it doesn't accidently get pulled in. Insert the elastic. Then sew the end of the elastic together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFuC0qTPMGY1-rzlSosakCR2JospW7Cw7u0kfAFVYOCGoJZVv4-LR_jf8D_8047XITL7aQtNSaH-b_1mHY878BxW_mzYkYqwt3_HEbfNA6hyM7tw1DfGPBOe0CzSy7HcTdJplRU9PM-unU/s1600/IMG_2810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFuC0qTPMGY1-rzlSosakCR2JospW7Cw7u0kfAFVYOCGoJZVv4-LR_jf8D_8047XITL7aQtNSaH-b_1mHY878BxW_mzYkYqwt3_HEbfNA6hyM7tw1DfGPBOe0CzSy7HcTdJplRU9PM-unU/s320/IMG_2810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, admire your work! You're nearly done. Isn't that a nice clean finish?!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji90vL3zYWtSiR-IR9xOiHcHcPeyhN2IP-8n-VtJhurlF8tUYcmDrtf1-tqnLJ9clCZx5PMR5-HPRrBBlGUAqA5jt9L6j0IHCqv34zUU3eAq2Vc0BLGed74yTnlEH7BR-NfKq2Y6CwTH88/s1600/IMG_2811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji90vL3zYWtSiR-IR9xOiHcHcPeyhN2IP-8n-VtJhurlF8tUYcmDrtf1-tqnLJ9clCZx5PMR5-HPRrBBlGUAqA5jt9L6j0IHCqv34zUU3eAq2Vc0BLGed74yTnlEH7BR-NfKq2Y6CwTH88/s320/IMG_2811.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last step! Add the cuffs to the hems of your pant legs. I made these the same way I made the waistband. Cut them to the length needed to go around your pant leg. I used 3 inches, so they finished at about 1 inch wide. This is the easiest way to measure how much you need. Remember when you sew them on RIGHT SIDES AND RAW EDGES TOGETHER!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFC-dviy0QrKR39QompVQbEyzI4VIu7BU-zruQpeUYhF50rVlsyWLYHvfz_x_DJun5_HG2RYi_cKXavuT1MfDiuUn83SyLvDHMeSOwnw-11IlHloXhtSzr7ggGzP2plsf0kUWl7dm7d4es/s1600/IMG_2812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFC-dviy0QrKR39QompVQbEyzI4VIu7BU-zruQpeUYhF50rVlsyWLYHvfz_x_DJun5_HG2RYi_cKXavuT1MfDiuUn83SyLvDHMeSOwnw-11IlHloXhtSzr7ggGzP2plsf0kUWl7dm7d4es/s320/IMG_2812.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
FINALLY! Wear your new pajama pants and lounge around watching a moving and eating popcorn!<br />

We had two of my nephews for four day/three nights. We don't have any children...not two-legged children anyway so it was an adjustment getting used to have the boys running around the house. We went to the zoo, played in shaving cream, watched movies, played at three different parks, made homemade ice cream, and many other things. I know I teach kindergarten and I have 13-18 kids during the school year, but that time is always pretty routine oriented. Having kids without a plan or routine is a little bit scary for me. I have also gone to the beach and walked a trail with my sister and had a movie / game night with my mom and sister. So, needless to say I have been having fun I just haven't had craft time. Tonight was the first time I made it to my craft room since last week Wednesday. <br />
<br />
Now to share the project that I finally made!!! I have been admiring the Swoon Block for a long time. I love this block...I finally found a good tutorial online and got busy. Here is the link for the tutorial I used. <a href="http://doublenickelquilts.blogspot.com/2012/03/scrappy-nickel-swoon-quilt-block.html">http://doublenickelquilts.blogspot.com/2012/03/scrappy-nickel-swoon-quilt-block.html</a> It was well written, but it was written for charm squares, so just keep in mind that for most of the pieces you really only need to cut 2 1/2 in squares, so you could use any fabric 2 1/2 inches wide. <br />
<br />
Here is my finished block.<br />

It was so pretty. I knew I needed to do something fun with it. A pillow! *HINT* If you don't want to buy expensive pillow forms or stuffing, you can buy the cheap $2 pillows from Walmart and pull the stuffing from them! If you are going to do this instead of buying a pillow form, but still want your pillow to appear very smooth (no lumps) then just apply fusible fleece to the front and back pieces of your fabric before stitching and turning.</div>

The last thing that I really wanted to share with you is this excellent recipe I found for Apple Crisp. Isn't it gorgeous. It is even prettier once it has been baked, but I was so excited to try it that I forgot to get a picture. Here is the link: <a href="http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Apple-Oatmeal-Crisp/">http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Apple-Oatmeal-Crisp/</a>. This recipe is great for many reasons, but I like it best because it has the crumb topping on top and bottom and everyone knows the crumb topping is the best part!!!<br />
